Estate Planning and Administration
If you do not take the time to consult an attorney about an estate plan, the New York state laws of intestacy will determine who will inherit your assets. In addition, a carefully considered plan can avoid estate tax and the cost of probate.
It is very important to review your estate plan periodically due to ever changing laws and/or changes in your family circumstances. For example, a supplemental needs trust can be included in your will to provide for a family member who has become disabled.
My practice includes probating estates where the decedent has executed a will and administration proceedings where advance planning was not done.
